Nils Rummler Biography
Education
Nils Rummler was born in Zittau, Germany in 1998. He graduated in 2025 with a M.Sc. in Computer Engineering at RWTH in Aachen, Germany. His Master thesis compared measured and simulated impulse responses of the Gasteig concert hall in Munich using the Aalto University loudspeaker orchestra. The work required high expertise in room acoustic simulations for large volumes as well as knowledge about spatial audio processing techniques.
His Bachelor thesis compared estimation methods for multi-exponential decay processes and received the Best Bachelor Thesis Award in 2021 by the external experts of the IHTA plus the DEGA Students Award by the German Acoustical Society in 2022.
During the studies at the renowned Institute for Hearing Technology and Acoustics at the RWTH Aachen University he could gain valuable experiences in designing, programming and performing listening experiments, spatial audio reproduction and versatile acoustic measurement techniques (reverberation chamber, semi- and fully anechoic chamber, scaled scattering measurements, HRTFs, loudspeaker arrays, Kundt's tube, RIRs).
His compulsory six-month internship happened at Kahle Acoustics (Fall-Winter 2023) and was entirely research-oriented. He investigated the so-called seat-dip effect of seated audience with the help of a 1:20 scale model. The measurements allowed a different and more comprehensive perspective of previous results.
Musical Experience
Classical percussionist for orchestras and drummer in big bands since 2010.
Performed with the European Youth Orchestra, the Landesjugendorchester Sachsen, and the Junge Bläserphilharmonie Sachsen during school years, followed by numerous concerts with student orchestras in Aachen and Münster.
Worked as a sound engineer and gained experience as a musical director for live audio recordings of chamber and pop music.
Taught drums to children and adults.
Professional and Research Experience
In parallel to his studies Nils started as a self-employed sound engineer in 2020, quickly establishing himself as audio operator for both music and corporate events and also gained experience in audio and video broadcast from the onset. The connection between noise management and audio system design for large events triggered Nils's interest to further pursue and do some acoustic research.
During his studies at the renowned Institute for Hearing Technology and Acoustics at the RWTH Aachen University he could gain valuable experiences in designing, programming and performing listening experiments, spatial audio reproduction and versatile acoustic measurement techniques (reverberation chamber, semi- and fully anechoic chamber, scaled scattering measurements, HRTFs, loudspeaker arrays, Kundt's tube, RIRs).
Kahle Acoustics Reference Projects
In 2024 Nils joins Kahle Acoustics as external consultant. Through Python scripts development for Rhino as well as Matlab signal processing solutions to solve complex geometry and acoustics tasks, Nils delivers highly customized solutions so that Kahle Acoustics can keep up with their high-level standards in computationally complex tasks.
Thanks to Nils' solid experience in working closely with musicians and recording professional engineers Kahle Acoustics leans on him be it for an opera house renovation project or a brand-new recording studio. Also, with Nils' live sound technology knowledge, Kahle Acoustics values his savoir-faire in electro-acoustic installations.
His experience with live sound technology has been valuable for the planning of electro-acoustic installations at the Grand Théâtre de Genève (2024-2026).
